“When the conversation turns too quickly to films, I see it as a sign of weakness.”

The Dinner is a story about the dark side of love, marriage and families. It takes the concept of unconditional love to the extreme and makes you wish there was no such thing. It’s not that the story is so unusual, if you watched Desperate Housewives you have seen parental love taken to the extreme but The Dinner shows no remorse and that is what makes it chilling. We are often in The Netherlands and I will never look at those people the same. It is possible that the story is universal and could easily apply to other cultures but I would prefer that the monsters stay in one place and I don’t mind if they stay in Holland.
Many compare this story to Gone Girl but there was a motivation in Gone Girl – bitter wife gets revenge, The Dinner is just plain evil.

You’ve scared me into wanting to read it. =)
